F:A PHENOMENOLOGICAL STUDY OF MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS AMONG THE PRODUCTIVE AGE GROUP WITH DIABETES MELLITUS IN THE WORKING AREA OF THE DEPOK II COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER
Abstract
Background: A significant increase in cases of Diabetes Mellitus, according to doctors' diagnosis, occurred in the 15-54 year old age group. Diabetes Mellitus in this age range causes various risk factors that trigger early symptoms of mental health problems, including irritability, anxiety, fatigue, and fear. Early symptoms of mental health problems can result in a negative impact on the quality of life of the productive age group with Diabetes Mellitus, including decreased concentration and work productivity, a considerable deterioration in physical function, and impaired social function. Objective: This study aimed to explore and comprehend the in-depth experiences of mental health problems in the productive age group with Diabetes Mellitus. Method: This study used a qualitative approach. The study included six participants (two men and four women) who had been diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus by a doctor and were selected as informants. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using thematic analysis with the help of NVivo 12 software. Results: The results of the study reveal significant mental health problems in the form of psychological symptoms (stress and anxiety) during the Diabetes Mellitus diagnosis and treatment process. Conclusion: People with Diabetes Mellitus in the productive age group exhibit signs and symptoms of serious mental health problems, such as stress, inefficient coping, and anxiety, requiring a diagnosis that allows for the right provision of mental health interventions.
