Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus accounts for between 90% and 95% of diabetes, with the highest proportion in low- and middle-income countries. To monitor the metabolic status of people with type 2 diabetes mellitus, a hemoglobin-glycosylated (HbA1c) examination is usually performed. This study aimed to determine the correlation between HbA1c levels and TSH levels and the number of neutrophil cells in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This research was conducted from January to February 2022 at Bangil Hospital, Pasuruan Regency. This type of research was analytic observational with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study were patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Bangil Hospital, Pasuruan Regency, and the sample size was 30 patients selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection in this study was carried out by blood tests using an immunoassay analyzer to obtain HbA1c and TSH levels. Data collection was also carried out by blood tests using a hematology analyzer to obtain data on the number of neutrophil cells. Data were analyzed by correlation test. The results showed that the p-value for the correlation test between HbA1c and TSH levels was 0.094; while the p value for the correlation test between HbA1c levels and the number of neutrophil cells was 0.021. It was concluded that there was no correlation between HbA1c levels and TSH and there was no correlation between Hba1c levels and the number of neutrophil cells in type 2 diabetics.
