Jumlah Neutrofil Pewarnaan Gram Sampel Sputum dan Gambaran Radiologis Paru
Abstract
Gram staining is a routine microbiological examination performed on patients with pneumonia. The number of neutrophils in gram staining of sputum specimens helps determine the body's response to infection and the morphology of microorganisms that cause pneumonia. This study aimed to determine the correlation between the number of neutrophils found in gram staining of sputum samples and radiological images of the lungs in patients with pneumonia. This study was implemented with a cross-sectional design, involving 55 patients who underwent sputum microbiology and radiological examinations. The study was conducted at the Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang from August 2022 to October 2022. The correlation between the two variables was tested using contingency coefficient analysis. The results showed that 52.7% showed infiltration and 47.3% showed no infiltration. Of the patients with infiltrates, 52.7% had Bartlett Criteria +1 = 6.8% and +2 = 20.6%; and had a semi-quantitative score of +1 = 44.8%, +2 = 27.5%, +3 = 24.1%, +4 = 3.4%. The p-value of the correlation test was 0.037, with an r value of 0.327. The proportion of Klebsiella pneumoniae was 32.72%. The conclusion of the study is that there is a correlation between the number of leukocytes from gram staining of sputum samples and the radiological picture of pneumonia patients at the Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang.
