Abstract


Factory workers are a group at high risk of occupational lung disease. Exposure to dust, smoke or gas particles during the work process will have potential to induce lung damage. This is important in the health management of factory workers to prevent occupational lung disability. This study is descriptive with a cross-sectional approach which aims to determine the spirometry profile and thoracic photo images of factory workers so as to anticipate the occurrence of occupational lung disease in factory workers. Data collection was conducted for 3 months by total sampling and analyzed in the distribution table. The sample collected was 260 people with lung function disorders according of spirometry at 1.92% and lung abnormalities according to chest X-ray at 2.69%. The highest distribution of factors in consecutive sequence was found in factory workers aged> 40 years (58.08%), male gender (97.31%), normoweight BMI (63.07%), non-smoking (38.84%), no comorbids (90.76%) and length of work ≤ 5 years (60.76%). Spirometry and chest X-ray examination are indicators that can be conducted for factory workers as one of the risk factors that can cause lung disease. Male workers, normoweight BMI and no comorbids contribute to the development of lung abnormalities from spirometry and chest X-ray examinations at the same time. Meanwhile, age, smoking status and length of work contributed variously to lung abnormality in factory workers. The outcomes of spirometry and chest X-ray examinations of factory workers have a tendency based on age, gender, smoking status and length of work.
