Pengetahuan tentang Diabetes Self-Management Education dalam Mengontrol Glukosa Darah Pasien Diabetes Melitus Tipe 2

Abstract


Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a multi-system chronic disease associated with abnormal insulin production, impaired insulin use, or both Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) is a process that facilitates knowledge, skills and abilities in the self-care of DM patients, including monitoring regular blood glucose, diet management, physical activity, medication, and visits to health facilities. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of diabetes self-management education on the level of knowledge and control of blood glucose in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the working area of the Antang Public Health Center in Makassar. This study used quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design without a control group. Samples were taken using purposive sampling in 30 type 2 DM patients. DSME was given with a duration of 30 minutes and the level of knowledge and blood glucose were re-evaluated the following week. Educational material about DM, diet regulation, physical exercise, blood glucose control, and pharmacological therapy. Respondents given a booklet about DSME. Analysis of the data used was paired sample t test. The results showed there was an influence of DSME on increasing knowledge (p-value = <0.001, and vice versa there was no effect of DSME on blood glucose control in type 2 DM patients (p-value = 0.625). It is hoped that DSME could become routine in providing nursing care to patients type 2 diabetes mellitus and family involvement to support patient diabetes self-management.

ABSTRAK

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) adalah penyakit kronis multisistem yang berhubungan dengan produksi insulin yang abnormal, gangguan penggunaan insulin, atau keduanya Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) adalah proses yang memfasilitasi pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan kemampuan dalam self-care pasien DM, meliputi monitoring glukosa darah secara teratur, manajemen diet, aktivitas fisik, medikasi, dan kunjungan ke fasilitas kesehatan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh diabetes self-management education terhadap tingkat pengetahuan dan kontrol glukosa darah pasien DM tipe 2 di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Antang Kota Makassar. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain quasi experiment tanpa kelompok kontrol. Sampel diambil menggunakan purposive sampling pada 30 pasien DM tipe 2. DSME diberikan dengan durasi 30 menit dan tingkat pengetahuan dan glukosa darahnya dievaluasi kembali pada minggu berikutnya. Materi edukasi tentang penyakit DM, pengaturan diet, latihan fisik, kontrol glukosa darah, dan terapi farmakologis. Responden diberikan booklet tentang DSME. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah paired Sample t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada pengaruh DSME terhadap peningkatan pengetahuan (p value = <0,001, dan sebaliknya tidak ada pengaruh DSME terhadap kontrol glukosa darah pada pasien DM tipe 2 (p value = 0,625). Diharapkan DSME dapat menjadi rutinitas dalam dalam pemberian asuhan keperawatan pada pasien diabetes mellitus tipe 2 dan pelibatan keluarga untuk mendukung diabetes self-management pasien.
