Abstract

Type II diabetes mellitus is a significant public health problem in Indonesia, with increasing prevalence. The difference in results between the Point of Care Testing (Accu-Chek) and Enzymatic (ABX Pentra 400) examination methods is not yet known for certain, in terms of blood glucose examination. This study aimed to determine the difference in the results of random blood glucose levels in patients with type II diabetes with the Accu-Chek device and the ABX Pentra 400 device. This study was an experimental study. The population in this study were 694 people with type II diabetes in Buol Regency who received standard treatment, and 30 sample members were selected using a purposive sampling technique. In 30 patients, venous blood glucose measurements were carried out using the Accu-Chek and ABX Pentra 400 devices, respectively. Blood glucose levels from both methods were compared using a paired samples t-test. The average blood glucose level examined by the Point of Care Testing method was 324.90 mg/dl, while the Enzymatic method was 339.40 mg/dl, with a mean difference of 14.50 mg/dl. The p value was <0.05, which means there was a significant difference in blood glucose levels. It was concluded that blood glucose examination in patients with type II diabetes mellitus using the Point of Care Testing method (Accu-Chek) and the Enzymatic method (ABX Pentra 400) give different results.
