Media Edukasi untuk Meningkatkan Pengetahuan dan Self-Management Pasien Diabetes Mellitus guna Mencegah Kegawatdaruratan Hiperglikemia

Abstract


Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease with a high risk of hyperglycemic emergencies, requiring effective education to improve patient knowledge and self-management skills. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of various educational media in improving the knowledge and self-management behaviors of diabetes mellitus patients to prevent acute complications. This study, a literature review, searched PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, and Google Scholar, resulting in 12 primary articles that met the inclusion criteria. The study results showed that digital media such as health apps, online education, interactive videos, and gamification provided the most significant improvements in knowledge, therapy adherence, glucose monitoring, and glycemic control. Audiovisual media were also effective in clarifying understanding, while print media remained beneficial for certain groups despite its limited interactivity. A multimodal approach was deemed optimal because it could adapt to patient characteristics and needs. It was concluded that educational media plays a crucial role in strengthening self-management and reducing the risk of hyperglycemic emergencies in diabetes mellitus patients.

ABSTRAK

 

Diabetes mellitus merupakan penyakit kronis dengan risiko tinggi terjadinya kegawatdaruratan hiperglikemia, sehingga diperlukan edukasi yang efektif untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kemampuan self-management pasien. Tujuan dari studi ini adalah menganalisis efektivitas berbagai media edukasi dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan dan perilaku self-management pasien diabetes mellitus guna mencegah komplikasi akut. Studi ini merupakan literature review yang dicari dari PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest dan Google Scholar, sehingga diperoleh 12 artikel primer yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa media digital seperti aplikasi kesehatan, edukasi daring, video interaktif, dan gamifikasi memberikan peningkatan paling signifikan terhadap pengetahuan, kepatuhan terapi, pemantauan glukosa, dan kontrol glikemik. Media audiovisual juga efektif dalam memperjelas pemahaman, sementara media cetak tetap bermanfaat pada kelompok tertentu meski memiliki keterbatasan interaktivitas. Pendekatan multimodal dinilai paling optimal karena mampu menyesuaikan karakteristik dan kebutuhan pasien. Disimpulkan bahwa media edukasi berperan penting dalam memperkuat self-management dan menurunkan risiko kegawatdaruratan hiperglikemia pada pasien diabetes mellitus.
